Planty and the Practice of Conscious Drinking

Planty and the Practice of Conscious Drinking There is a moment, just after the water hits the leaves, when an infusion tells you what it is. The aroma rises. Sometimes warm and spiced. Sometimes green and bright. Sometimes so quiet you have to lean in to find it. A Planty infusion is built to make that moment honest. Nothing in the cup that wasn’t in the field In the Planty tea bag, what is inside is what was harvested. Dried leaves. Pieces of root. Spice. We have made the choice not to add any artificial additives, and to use organically grown ingredients. The ginger has to be good ginger. The lemongrass has to have been picked at the right moment. The turmeric has to have been dried properly. It also means the infusion will not taste the same every time. A plant is not a formula. Its character shifts with the season, with the rain, with the day it was picked. Bold, subtle, and the space between Planty is built to play with your senses. Some of our blends are bold. Island Vitality, with its ginger and guava leaves, lands warm and direct — the kind of cup that wakes the body up. Sunrise Boost, built around cinnamon and turmeric, is fragrant, grounding, faintly spicy. These are infusions that announce themselves. Others are quieter. Tropical Zen pairs lemongrass with bamboo, and the bamboo asks you to slow down to find it. Black Citrus folds combava into Mauritian black tea, bright at the edges, steady underneath. Part of drinking Planty consciously is noticing which kind of cup you are reaching for, and why. A morning that needs waking is not the same as an afternoon that needs settling. The infusion can meet you where you are. A way of paying attention to what is around you Planty grew out of a specific place, here in Mauritius. The plants we use are plants that have lived on this island for a long time, tied into how Mauritians have eaten, healed, and gathered for generations. Ginger in the kitchen. Lemongrass in the garden. Turmeric in the cooking pot, and sometimes in the medicine cabinet. Cinnamon, combava, guava leaves — none of these are unknown here. They are ordinary, in the best sense of the word. What Planty does is take that everyday botanical knowledge and put it in a sachet that fits a modern life. The plants are the same. You boil the water. You wait. You pay attention to what you drink, and to the fact that you are drinking it. This is, in a small way, a reconnection. To the plants growing a few kilometres from where you live. To the people who grow them. To a way of taking care of yourself that does not depend on anything imported, processed, or oversold. Conscious drinking, in practice We use the word conscious carefully. For Planty, conscious drinking means a few specific things. It means knowing what is in the cup. It means knowing where the plants came from, and that the people who grew them were treated fairly along the way; our supply is organic and Fair for Life certified. It means noticing what you are tasting instead of drinking on autopilot. That is the whole practice. Steep, breathe, taste, notice. A small reset, available to anyone, made from plants that have been part of this island longer than most things on it. La Maison Corson, a Story of 140 Years

La Maison Corson, a story of 140 years How long is 140 years? It is long enough for an island to change hands, to rename some of its streets, to welcome generations of children who will grow up, raise their own, and become grandparents. It is long enough for roads to be paved and re-paved, for languages to shift. And yet, in the hills where La Maison Corson’s tea was first planted, some things have stayed remarkably still. Rolling. Drying. Blending. Tasting. The gestures are the same today as they were in 1886. A journey that began elsewhere In the late nineteenth century, a young Mauritian named Jules Corson set off to study tea cultivation there, a craft already centuries refined in Asia, and almost unknown at home. He learned patiently: the rhythm of the plants, the care of the soil, the long art of transformation from leaf to cup. When he returned, he carried more than knowledge. He carried Assam seeds. And a conviction that these plants, given the right hands and the right land, could take root in Mauritius. In 1886, the first five acres were planted at the Jardin Expérimental. The name itself says everything: a garden of experiments. A beginning. A hypothesis about what this island could produce. That hypothesis, carefully tended, became a heritage. The craft that time does not touch Step into our factory today, tools have evolved, some processes are faster, some more precise. But the essence, the attention, the patience, the sensory judgment remains exactly what it has always been. Tea-making is not a mechanical act. It is a language of small decisions. When to harvest. How long to wither. How firmly to roll. When the aroma is ready. When to stop, when to continue, when to taste again. Behind every cup of Corson tea are decades of this kind of learning. A tea woven into daily life 140 years is long enough for a tea to stop being a product and start becoming something closer to a presence. In Mauritius, Corson tea is served at breakfast, in offices, at roadside stands, at family tables, in the homes of strangers welcoming a guest. It is the familiar cup in the morning. The pause between two tasks. The gesture offered to a friend who has just sat down. This kind of belonging does not happen overnight. It is built slowly, through daily repetition, through people who, for whatever quiet reason, chose this tea and kept choosing it. One of those stories reached us recently through our latest episode series. We spoke with Maraz, a Mauritian street food vendor, who has been serving Corson Golden Pekoe to his customers since 1947. Seventy-eight years. One blend. A quiet trust, renewed with every cup he pours. Maraz’s story is not unusual, and that is precisely what makes it meaningful. Across the island, in countless small and unseen ways, Corson has become part of how Mauritians gather, work, welcome, and rest. A thread that runs through the ordinary hours of ordinary days. One Maison, many voices Today, as La Maison Corson opens its next chapter, the same craft flows into three distinct universes. Corson Our historic soul. Warm and familiar, the tea of everyday Mauritian life. Planty Our modern, nature-inspired spirit. Infusions that celebrate the island’s botanical richness, rooted in local heritage and crafted for today. Théière des Îles Our souvenir collection. Delicate blends for moments of quiet celebration and thoughtful gifting. Three identities. One house. One shared inheritance of knowledge, soil, and care. Toward the next century Every leaf harvested this season will become someone’s morning cup next year. Every young worker learning alongside a seasoned taster is tomorrow’s savoir-faire. Every choice we make writes the next chapter of a story that has always belonged, ultimately, not to us, but to the people who drink it. Since 1886, our purpose has remained simple: to bring people together over a cup of tea. That is what we have done for 140 years. It is what we intend to keep doing, one cup at a time. Théière des Îles – The Language of Gifting: When Tea Becomes a Gesture

Théière des Îles — The Language of Gifting: When Tea Becomes a Gesture There are gifts that are received, and gifts that are truly felt. A carefully chosen tea, presented with intention, offered with warmth, belongs to the second kind. It says something that words sometimes cannot: I thought of you. I wanted to give you a moment. Across cultures and centuries, tea has carried this quiet power. It has been the centerpiece of ceremonies and the quiet companion of intimate conversations. To offer tea is to offer time, an invitation to pause, to breathe, and to be present. A universal language, refined through the ages From the Japanese tea ceremony, where every movement is deliberate and every cup a meditation, to the elaborate hospitality rituals of Moroccan mint tea, to the gentle afternoon traditions of English drawing rooms, tea has always been the vessel through which cultures express care, respect, and belonging. What unites these traditions, across continents and centuries, is intention. Tea is never merely a drink when it is given as a gift. It becomes a symbol: of thoughtfulness, of refinement, of a relationship worth celebrating. Théière des Îles was born from this understanding. Each blend is composed not only to delight the palate, but to carry meaning — to be the kind of gift that lingers in memory long after the last cup is poured. The art of the thoughtful gift In a world of abundance, the most precious thing we can offer another person is a moment of genuine pleasure. Not something consumed and forgotten, but something savored, an experience that unfolds slowly, with warmth and intention. A box of Théière des Îles is precisely this. From the first glance at its refined packaging to the delicate unfurling of leaves in hot water, to the soft rise of aromatic steam, every detail is an invitation. To give Théière des Îles is to give a moment There is something quietly revolutionary about offering someone permission to pause. In gifting a tin of Théière des Îles you are offering an experience, a ritual, a breath of elegance in an otherwise hurried day. Discover the Théière des Îles collection — and find the perfect expression of your most thoughtful gestures.
